Another importance of a proper grade is water runoff. A bad grade and finish will cause water to run off in an undesirable direction or in some cases to puddle in an undesired area. We see many problems like this. Sometimes water may accumulate in a parking spot and the owner gets their feet wet while trying to enter their vehicle. Other times we see water back up in a garage or in front of an entrance. At Concrete Contractors we use proper grading and finishing techniques during our driveway replacement ensuring a proper concrete depth and run off. When finishing a driveway, placement of control joints is crucial. All too often we see shattered, spider webbed driveways that didn’t have the control joints properly spaced. Concrete contracts and expands which causes it to crack. Control joints help control these cracks and should be spaced every nine to twelve feet on a standard four inch driveway. Many times we see that a driveway has proper control joints placed along the length of the driveway but not the width. This control joint is often neglected and the cause of many a problem.
